Shirt Dress + Layering Tips

Happy Friday, Everyone!

So, here’s a confession: I’m that fashion blogger that works a 9-5 job and spends more lunch hours than I’d like to admit at Nordstrom. Why? Because they literally have everything from bags that cost more than my monthly salary to chic little dresses like this one that is under $50!

Today, I’m not going to bore you with my Nordstrom dressing room stories, but I do want to share how I’m taking this adorable shift dress right into fall! Ideally, it would be perfect for the springtime, but I thought I’d share a few tips on wearing your summer/spring apparel into the colder months. The trick is that sometimes it could be tough to figure out how to style these pieces to make them work for the season! My answer – LAYER IT! Below I’ve listed my favorite layering options that are currently trending.1. The Moto Jacket (under $90) – Even if you don’t consider your style the slightest bit edgy (totally me) it’s a cool way to temper a feminine frock, and designers have reinvented this wardrobe staple in soft knits and pastel colors as well. In the upcoming months I will add my faux leather moto jacket because it brings some edge to this look making the dress look less feminine. Adding another texture and/or layer brings more interest into the look as well!

2. The Denim Jacket – It’s classic, timeless, and goes with everything. The denim jacket is the ultimate summer-to-fall (Texas y’all) layering piece and I’m thinking that it is here to stay. By throwing on a denim jacket, it allows me to dress this look down but still look cute and put together.

3. The Faux Suede Jacket (in my cart) – The suede trend is upon us and I’ve fallen head over heels for it! It probably comes as no surprise to you that one of the big fabrics for this fall and winter seasons is suede. It’s warm. It’s chic. It’s also the kind of material that you can wear a number of different ways. So add a new texture to your wardrobe with a faux suede coat or jacket.

    I am in love with that dress! Love the color blocking and the way you styled it with simple accessories! I too spend way too much time at nordstrom!
