White Wine Review: Chardonnay

With the arrival of the long hot summer days ahead comes a craving for lighter and refreshing beverages! After a long week, you can find the hubs and I outback enjoying the sunset and sipping our favorite white wine! Why we love it? It’s crisp, chilled, and often has lower alcohol levels than reds, keeping you relaxed, revitalized, and less dehydrated. Our white wine go to? Chardonnay, or as I like to call it Chardy! Chardonnay is the world’s most famous white wine grape and also one of the most widely planted. Describing flavors of Chardonnay is no easy task! Swirl and taste the lush flavors of green apple, pear, melon, creamy lemon, and sometimes pineapple. Choose your preference of oaked or unoaked and round it out with hints of butterscotch and vanilla.

Our latest Chardonnay of choice comes out of Napa Valley’s Duckhorn Vineyards, a popular vineyard known for bottling premier wines with a balance of Napa’s richest and finest fruits. It won’t take much more than a swirl of the glass and this Chardy will bring buttery aromas of ripe green apple and lemon to life. You can’t help but love the blend of light oak and fruits. My biggest issue with Chardonnay’s is many seem to be either too fruity and too heavily oaked, but Duckhorn brings them together beautifully. I love the citrus notes and the smooth buttery finish. It’s quite the crisp and refreshing end to any summer day, seriously, if you’re a wine fan then you should treat yourself and try it.

Food Pairing: Lobster, white fleshed fish, shrimp, chicken and pork, butter and cream sauces, avocado and squash.

Region: Napa Valley, California

Where to Buy: Your local Kroger or HEB stores or Duckhorn.com

Price Point: $35. Pricepoint is steep, but once opened you will be glad you purchased it! Plus, you can always take advantage of one of the wine deals and try it at a discount.

Side Note: Got dinner plans tonight? Go by your local grocery store to grab seabass and squash to grill, paired with Duckhorn Chardy for the perfect date night in… it will not disappoint! ! And if you’d rather sip on red wine tonight, check out my red wine review HERE! Cheers, it’s Friday

I will literally try any wine that comes from Napa. I’m usually a red girl, but you’re right, for the summer months, Chardonnay is a must!

I’m a white wine girl all the way but typically stick to pinot. I will have to give this one a try! I don’t think I have ever had any wine from Napa!

Darby, Pinot was my first love! I’ve recently ventured out to trying Chardonnay and LOVE this one! You should definitely try a wine from Napa, so many choices and they are ALL good! Thanks for stopping by!
