It’s officially been 371 days since the hubs and I have been true “Austinites”! Crazy right? We love venturing out for date night or the weekends to see what this city is all about and so far it does not disappoint! We do miss The Woodlands and visit often, but we are loving Austin more and more. Calling Austin home for a year I’ve learned it’s hip, it’s healthy, it’s active and it’s beautiful (hill country beauty). And even though it’s been an extremely hot summer, I have realized the humidity is less than Houston. Praise Jesus for better hair days!
Meet my top five Austin food picks! They are not sponsored — just simply encouraged by two foodies who love date night! And luckily, I’ve been super active in this beautiful new town that the calories haven’t caught up… yet!
Here are our current favorites:
Austin, Texas Restaurants
Mattie’s at Green Pastures – we ventured out to this gem for our anniversary earlier this month! Mattie’s is an old colonial style house with beautiful lawn covered in string lights giving all the romantic feels! Dig into homemade biscuits and the best fried chicken while you watch peacocks roam the pastures. I can’t wait to go back!
North Italia – hands down our most visited! Each dish is made from scratch daily and I promise it doesn’t disappoint! Our go to is sharing a pasta entree and pizza, best of both worlds right?! Their happy hour is a must, too! Try it at two Austin area locations.
El Monumento – need a queso and margarita fix? El Monumento is our go to! Located very north of Austin in Georgetown, but I promise it’s worth the trek. Not only do they offer delicious Mexican food, but the ambiance that overlooks the San Gabriel river is also a plus!
Uchi – the real sushi experience! Uchi is Austin and Houston’s sushi spot! It will exceed all your Japanase expectations, but is quite heavy on the wallet. Their happy hour is easier on the budget and does not disappoint.
Red Ash Italia – is it that noticeable that we LOVE Italian food?! Start with a vast array of old/new world wines. The menu features fresh handmade pastas, pristine seafood (the hubs is happy), locally sourced prime meats roasted on the wood-burning grill. Follow this by some of the best Italian desserts.
Obviously, I didn’t include every favorite but I tried my hardest to pick our top five! I do foresee this list getting update very often, though!
Happy eating and long weekend, friends!
