How it all started…
A Sunday I’ll never forget. A Sunday where I experienced every emotion that comes to mind. That particular Sunday I woke up extremely early with a funny feeling. Something told me that it was THE day! I rolled out of bed, did my morning routine and grabbed a cup of coffee. As I sat in the living room I wondered what the next 8, 10, 12 hours would be like and how life changing they would be. Thirty minutes later Cody wakes up and of course I act like nothing is wrong.
That particular Sunday we decided to just stay in comfies and watch church from home (at this point 39 weeks, 5 days pregnant I was afraid to go anywhere). As we head upstairs to watch the service in the media room, I’m very uncomfortable. I mention I think I’m having contractions, but manageable contractions. If you know my husband, you know he’s a number person! So, of course he wants to time them, track them and chart them… literally ALL OF THEM! At this point I’m not only uncomfortable but very annoyed! Church is over and we head downstairs to discuss our plan.
The longest day ever!
It’s now afternoon and by this point I’ve probably taken 3 naps because everyone advised to SLEEP before baby! We head out to grab lunch and the contractions are still happening but not close enough and still manageable.
As Sunday evening approaches, things start to change. I’m still very uncomfortable, in some pain, still annoyed and very anxious! We hang out and now that waiting game has started. My biggest fear was arriving at the hospital “too early” and they tell us to go home. So, with a 25 minute drive, we were going to plan this right! The evening turns into night. The contractions get closer together. They get stronger. I’m thinking it’s go time!
Off to the hospital we go…
Cody loads the hospital bags. I try to make myself somewhat presentable and human looking! At 11PM on Sunday, June 23rd we left our home for the last time as a family of two! I balled my eyes out as we drove through the neighborhood. I was scared. Excited. Anxious. In pain. Etc. I should also mention, I was sad to leave our fur baby, Lincoln home alone. Cody promised me he’d be okay and that he had arrangements made for someone to come take care of him the next day. Seriously, mom guilt already!
We arrive at the hospital and check in. The nurse asks, “What brings you here tonight?” I kindly tell her I believe it’s go time, I’m ready to meet this baby! But, what I really wanted to tell her is… I’m pregnant and just rushed to the hospital at 11:30 PM, why do you think I’m here!
They send us to triage to get evaluated to see if it’s REALLY “go time”! As the nurse is checking me, my water breaks! If it wasn’t go time, it is now! Quickly the ball gets rolling. Shortly after inputting all my information, I’m rolled to L&D and everything gets real FAST! In a matter of 3 hours I went from being 4 centimeters dilated to 8.5 centimeters! Luckily, my doctor was on call that weekend and stopped by and stated, “I’ll be back in 3 hours or so to check on you.” Needless to say, our sweet Cru had other plans and wanted to meet Mom and Dad ASAP!
At 8.5 centimeters I get an epidural (PTL) and was able to relax a short bit befor the next stage of labor began. I remember my L&D nurse coming back in the room at 4:30 stating we will begin pushing in an hour. She told me to rest and we will all meet Baby M soon! Rest? YEAH RIGHT! At 5:15 my doctor arrives along with two other nurses. They begin to prep and literally at 5:30 the fun starts! After 6-7 pushes, our sweet BOY took his first breath! As my doctor sat him on my chest I felt the biggest smile form and my heart was filled with love within in seconds! He welcomed us with a brief little cry and begin to pee (all boy) with such excitement! From that moment my heart and life will never be the same.
Sidenote: Early in my pregnancy we decided to not find out the gender. It was hard! Especially around week 20-22. I wanted to decorate and be done with the nursery. Cody wouldn’t give in, so I kept my promise. As the doctor delivered him, Cody was so in aww of the process he forgot to tell me the gender! Nothing like the doctor having to remind the dad to announce it!
Happy Birthday Cru Ryan Marburger!
June 24that 5:58 AM will always hold a very special place in my heart! Little did most know, I prayed for a healthy baby BOY and God answered as he always does! Cru Ryan, you have changed us forever all 9.9 pounds and 21.5 inches of you!
